Normalization Method in TN Paramedical Degree Admission

The minimum eligibility mark required for candidates who have completed an equivalent examination will be determined using the normalization method. As per Tamil Nadu Act No. 3 of 2007, dated 05.03.2007, and G.O(Ms) No.77 of the Higher Education (J2) Department, dated 05.04.2007, the scores obtained by students in relevant subjects during qualifying exams administered by different Boards or Authorities will be adjusted against the scores attained by students in the same subjects during qualifying exams conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu.

This alignment process will be conducted utilizing the normalization method, where the highest score achieved by students from various Boards in each subject will be equated with the highest score obtained by State Board students in that subject. Subsequently, the relative scores of other students in that subject will be determined accordingly.

Normalization Method

The process of normalization is exemplified by the following scenario: when a student from the State Board achieves a top score of 100 in Physics, and another student from a different Board attains a highest score of 90 in the same subject, both scores will be adjusted to be on par with 100.

For instance, if a student from the latter Board scores 60 in Physics where the maximum mark in that Board is 90, the 60 marks will be standardized to 66.66 marks through the formula: (100 x 60) / 90 = 66.66%.

Upon the normalization of scores from diverse Boards in respective subjects, qualified students from various Boards will be amalgamated into a unified merit list. For individuals who have cleared examinations from National Boards such as CBSE and ISCE, only the highest marks secured at the national level will be taken into account for the normalization procedure.
