CGEGIS Scheme Table of Benefits, Subscription Rates 2024: The Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS) is a specially designed group insurance plan for employees of the central government. Under this scheme, employees make a modest monthly contribution in exchange for a lump sum insurance coverage.
Established in the 1970s, the CGEGIS initially offered a significant sum assured for a nominal monthly premium of Rs.10, making it a popular choice at that time. While modern insurance companies now provide substantial sum assured amounts up to a crore with minimal premium payments through Term Insurance plans, the CGEGIS scheme continues to be a compulsory offering for government employees, albeit facing competition from more attractive alternatives available in the market.

Latest CGEGIS Benefit Table 2024
Enclosed herewith are the Tables of Benefits for Savings Fund provided to the beneficiaries under the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme-1980. These tables have been issued quarterly starting from 01.01.2017, as detailed in the Office Memorandum dated 17.03.2017 from this Ministry.
For the quarter spanning from 01.04.2024 to 30.06.2024, the benefits have been calculated by IRDA based on an interest rate of 7.1% per annum (compounded quarterly), in accordance with the Department of Economic Affairs’ Resolution No. 5(3)-B(PD)/2023 dated 10.06.2024.
The enclosed Tables fall into two categories, as per the standard practice. The first Table reflects benefits for the savings fund of the scheme, considering a monthly subscription of Rs.10 from 1.1.1982 to 31.12.1989, and Rs.15 from 1.1.1990 onwards. The second Table, on the other hand, pertains to employees who chose to continue with a subscription of Rs.10 per month instead of opting for the revised rate from 1.1.1990 onwards.

Calculate CGEGIS Retirement Benefits: Step-by-Step Guide
In order to calculate retirement benefits under the CGEGIS Scheme, the maturity amount of savings funds is determined based on the latest benefits table issued by the Finance Ministry. The Department of Expenditure publishes a quarterly table outlining savings fund benefits for the scheme, covering the periods of January to March, April to June, July to September, and October to December. This table details the specific maturity amount to be provided to employees upon retirement. New CGEGIS Rates for Groups A, B, C – Central Govt Employees
After the introduction of the 7th Pay Commission, adjustments have been made to the CGEGIS Contribution rates according to the categorization of positions in Groups A, B, C, and D (Group D has been removed). The current subscription rates will continue to apply to all Central Government employees until updated rates are formally released. The current subscription rates are listed below:

The monthly subscription fee for former Group D employees who have been reclassified as Group C and placed in PB-1 with a Grade Pay of Rs.1800 is established at Rs.30, effective from January 2011.
