All Central and State RTI Online 2025: The Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005 in India grants citizens the authority to challenge the veiled practices and misuse of power prevalent in governance. This act enables individuals to seek access to crucial information through the information commissions established at both the central and state levels. The central and state Public Information Officers are mandated to provide assistance to individuals who are unable to submit their requests in writing.
Any citizen of India has the right to request information from a “public authority,” which refers to a government body or “instrumentality of State.” These public authorities are obligated to respond promptly, typically within thirty days, except in cases involving the life and liberty of the petitioner, where information must be provided within 48 hours. Furthermore, the RTI Act necessitates that public authorities digitize their records for widespread dissemination and proactively disclose certain categories of information to the public.
An individual is limited to submitting only three RTI applications, resulting in the rejection of the subsequent two applications. Under the RTI Act, the online RTI service is free of charge for the first appeal. The applicant or appellant must provide their mobile number to receive SMS notifications. The status of the online RTI application or first appeal can be viewed by the applicant or appellant by clicking on “View Status.” If the information requested pertains to the life or liberty of an individual, it must be provided within 48 hours.
However, if the application is forwarded through the Assistant Public Information Officer or is directed to the wrong public authority, an additional five days will be added to the standard processing time of thirty days or 48 hours, respectively. In the unfortunate event that your RTI query goes unanswered, it is essential to follow up and escalate the matter through the appropriate channels to ensure your right to information is upheld.
